The water leaking is normal its your overflow which means that your fresh tank is now full. If you install a valve on the overflow then it needs to be open when filling and when using or else the tank could explode. It could also be that your check valve went bad. The water tanks that we currently offer, like the Valterra RV Water Tank - Non-Toxic - ABS Plastic # R8042 are all hand pump use only and would not be compatible if you were using a water pump. If you do have a water pump you want to reach out to Coleman directly or to a local RV dealership as they should be able to get a replacement fresh water tank that is rated for use with electric pumps.

If you wanted to get 2 of the Valterra RV Water Tank # R8036 and use one for fresh water and the other for grey water you can but there are a few problems with this.
The first, as you noted, is that this tank wouldn't have the correct fittings for your application. If you are handy and can do some drilling and use glue to install some compatible fittings then that takes care of one problem.

The Valterra Waste valves like part # T1001VPM that are 1-1/2" in diameter are different than your fresh water drain. I reached out to my contact at Valterra, they confirmed that the fresh water tanks are for low pressure applications, however that's to fill the tank. You can use water pumps to get the water from the tank to the faucets.
The water pump must be on the suction side of the tank, and the tank needs to be well vented to allow air to replace the water as it drains. Pumps should not be used to force water into the system from the tank, since it not designed to be a pressurized holding tank.

Since the Valterra Fresh Water Tanks we carry like the # R8018 are not for use with an electric pump you would have to install a hand pump to feed the shower in the trailer you're renovating which would technically work, but would make showering quite a process unless you had someone else there to work the hand pump. view full answer...
